Letting Go of Past and Future

letting go of past and future

Are you constantly going back to the past or trying to prepare for tomorrow, being too attached to them and not letting go?

Most people do that. And it almost never ends well as the only thing they achieve is ruining their present moment and bringing regrets, worries and stress into their life.

We’re all too focused on past and future, and rarely spend any time here, being mindful of our current activity. When that’s exactly where we belong and the only place where we can actually do something about our future.

Here’s what we do wrong:

The wrong approach we have to the past and how to fix it

We are full of regrets about what has happened before. We try to analyze past experiences, to imagine what it could have been if we had done things differently, to feel bad about what we did, to ask ‘what if’.

But there’s no point in that. We can’t change things. Feeling sorry, thinking about it and trying to make up for what was is a wrong approach.

What you need to do is let go of yesterday, and leave it behind. Take the lessons if you can, learn how not to act next time, and move on.

That takes time to learn, but it’s something that will help you live life consciously and make the best of every moment.

The past is gone. Accept it.
Whatever it is that happened, understand that it was the right thing for that moment. Because of stuff like that we learn, grow, change and know what not to do next time. That’s how, eventually, we succeed.

Letting go of worrying about the future

Another thing we do way too much is thinking of tomorrow, trying to figure out what exactly will happen, to imagine all the other possible outcomes, and then to prepare.

But that requires always being focused on the future, and missing out on what’s happening right now.

It’s one thing to have goals and to plan your days so that you don’t forget stuff and get things done, but it’s another to think about what might happen in a few days, weeks, years.

So come back here. Be present.

Realize that life is a series of unpredicted events, but they always turn out just as they should. Prepare for what you can, but trust the natural flow.

That will help you handle whatever life throws at you, to not get stuck, move on and enjoy your days.

So the answer for everything is in this moment. Don’t forget that.

We tend to get lost in memories, dreams, fears, illusions, worries, and so on. But if you make it a habit to empty your mind whenever you catch yourself thinking too much or being negative, and stop and look around, you’ll be able to become aware of the current situation. To come back to the present and appreciate what is in the now.

Past and future, when we focus too much on them, are bad for our growing up and self-improvement. They prevent us from taking deliberate decisions, making the best out of life, being productive and staying positive.

So fall in love with this moment. It’s the easiest thing – just free yourself from the burden of the regrets about the past and worries about the future. And be here, now.

Appreciate what’s around you, thank for it, know it’s just what you need in this moment.

And you’ll feel happier than ever.

Signs You’re Stuck in a Rut (and How to Get Out)

signs you're stuck in a rut and what to do about it

Life has its ups and downs for all of us, but sometimes those downs creep up and take hold without us noticing. All of a sudden we look around and realize that we’ve found ourselves stuck deep in a rut. If you don’t know you’re in a rut, it can be very difficult to get out and this can lead to lasting negative effects on your health and happiness.

So how do you know when you’re in a rut?

And, more importantly, what can you do to get back on track?

One of the biggest red flags that demonstrate that you might be drifting listlessly through your own life is that you spend most of it daydreaming of being somewhere else.

It’s perfectly normal to spend some time in the office wishing you were lying on a beach instead, but if this is a permanent state of affairs, it’s a sign that you’re dangerously bored. Try adding some spontaneity into your life to liven things up a bit, at least until that next vacation.

If you don’t have an exotic location to jet off to, you need to make sure you still have some things to look forward to. If the only thing you have any anticipation for is getting into bed at the end of every day, then you’re definitely in a rut and need to start finding enjoyment in the little things in life, appreciating all of the things that come in between waking up and going back to bed again.

Social media is a great tool for lots of things in our lives. But it can also have a very damaging effect on your mental health because it’s easy to be fooled by the edited highlights of their lives people put on there. This can leave you feeling envious because the day to day reality of your life doesn’t look like what you assume everyone’s life is, so stop obsessing over other people and shift your focus back to yourself.

Doing this shouldn’t come at the expense of actually ever seeing other people or doing anything, of course. So if you’re finding that you are spending all of your time at home rather than getting out and seeing friends, or claiming that you don’t have time to do anything (when the reality is quite the opposite), these are all also signs that you need to think hard about changing your habits.

Nobody ever wants to get stuck in a rut, but in a world where work-life balances are getting ever more hard to maintain and technology is eating into face to face interactions, it’s easy to find yourself wondering where your life went. These tips from NetCredit will help you identify whether you are living yours in a rut and will help you start to find your way out again.
