Are you constantly going back to the past or trying to prepare for tomorrow, being too attached to them and not letting go?
Most people do that. And it almost never ends well as the only thing they achieve is ruining their present moment and bringing regrets, worries and stress into their life.
We’re all too focused on past and future, and rarely spend any time here, being mindful of our current activity. When that’s exactly where we belong and the only place where we can actually do something about our future.
Here’s what we do wrong:
The wrong approach we have to the past and how to fix it
We are full of regrets about what has happened before. We try to analyze past experiences, to imagine what it could have been if we had done things differently, to feel bad about what we did, to ask ‘what if’.
But there’s no point in that. We can’t change things. Feeling sorry, thinking about it and trying to make up for what was is a wrong approach.
What you need to do is let go of yesterday, and leave it behind. Take the lessons if you can, learn how not to act next time, and move on.
That takes time to learn, but it’s something that will help you live life consciously and make the best of every moment.
The past is gone. Accept it.
Whatever it is that happened, understand that it was the right thing for that moment. Because of stuff like that we learn, grow, change and know what not to do next time. That’s how, eventually, we succeed.
Letting go of worrying about the future
Another thing we do way too much is thinking of tomorrow, trying to figure out what exactly will happen, to imagine all the other possible outcomes, and then to prepare.
But that requires always being focused on the future, and missing out on what’s happening right now.
It’s one thing to have goals and to plan your days so that you don’t forget stuff and get things done, but it’s another to think about what might happen in a few days, weeks, years.
So come back here. Be present.
Realize that life is a series of unpredicted events, but they always turn out just as they should. Prepare for what you can, but trust the natural flow.
That will help you handle whatever life throws at you, to not get stuck, move on and enjoy your days.
So the answer for everything is in this moment. Don’t forget that.
We tend to get lost in memories, dreams, fears, illusions, worries, and so on. But if you make it a habit to empty your mind whenever you catch yourself thinking too much or being negative, and stop and look around, you’ll be able to become aware of the current situation. To come back to the present and appreciate what is in the now.
Past and future, when we focus too much on them, are bad for our growing up and self-improvement. They prevent us from taking deliberate decisions, making the best out of life, being productive and staying positive.
So fall in love with this moment. It’s the easiest thing – just free yourself from the burden of the regrets about the past and worries about the future. And be here, now.
Appreciate what’s around you, thank for it, know it’s just what you need in this moment.
And you’ll feel happier than ever.
How to Live in The Present
At this moment tens of thousands of people are lonely. Some regret what they did or didn’t do yesterday, while others hope that tomorrow is going to be better.
At this moment innocent people die in accidents, others get robbed.
Right now someone somewhere is crying, while someone else a few kilometers away is laughing.
A woman gives birth to a child and at this same moment a child says a final goodbye to his parent.
Some go to bed, others wake up.
Many people are falling in love, meeting someone new, feeling insecure or having doubts. Many more others are sleeping and dreaming right now, or just watching TV or browsing the Internet.
Some are writing, others are reading.
And what’s the only thing they have in common?
The present moment.
There is nothing that powerful, with so many opportunities, that can change a life in a matter of seconds, so fleeting and yet with a lifetime of consequences, like the present moment.
The power of now is unbelievable. And the best thing is that it’s given to you and you decide what to do with it.
Why do we take it for granted then, never make the best of it and then regret that? Maybe because we have so many of these little gifts, literally millions.
But often, in the end, we realize we never made even one of them count. And that means our life remains unlived. This is so sad.
I’m here to tell you that you can change the course of your life right now. By catching this brief moment and making it last forever.
By experiencing it, being aware of it and appreciating it. By being right here, right now, and realizing it’s the best place to be and you don’t need anything else.
Now is where you’re supposed to be and thinking about the past or future prevents you from living this moment, which is the only thing you truly have. And if you can’t live this one, you’ll miss out on many more. And having in mind that life is made of moments like that, you don’t live at all.
But if you take control and focus on your current activity, on the people around you, on how you feel right now, if you look around and breathe deeply, you might just feel like the happiest person in the world. And no one is able to take that from you. Because this moment is your present.
This moment is yours.
