3 Strategies for Ending a Relationship

The Importance of Communication in Couples

Getting married and then getting divorced is a normal practice throughout Colorado and the U.S. in general.

According to the American Psychological Association, 90 percent of people who get married are below the age of 50. APA also suggests that while the number of people getting married is high, so are the number of people getting divorced.

It is stated approximately 35-50 percent of marriages that happen in the modern era usually end up in divorce.

Without any doubt, coping with divorce is one of the biggest challenges an individual faces. Mental health professionals say that the grief you get from being divorced is equal to the grief you get from losing a loved one to death.

If you’ve been recently divorced, you’re going to need to practice these 3 strategies to survive.

Immediately Seek a Support Network

No matter what strategy you follow, if you do not find support quick, you won’t be able to survive through.

Your support network can consist of one or more individuals. Start by looking for support in friends and family, and if you fail to find someone who is willing to lend you their support within your existing network, you can look for support groups.

Several support groups exist throughout the country where individuals who get divorce attend a session and talk about the problems and experiences they are going through.

Talking to these people, and knowing that others are going through the same ordeal as you can be a great help.

Discover Something New

Surviving a divorce without distraction will likely make you end up in depression. It is important to keep yourself occupied at all times, especially when you are newly divorced.

You can either do this by finding a job (if you’re not doing anything) and allowing yourself to get busy in it.

You could also overcome feelings of isolation and fear by simply taking up new interests, hobbies, and activities.

Try your best to take on hobbies or activities that calm your soul and keep you busy and motivated. If you’re not sure what to go for, gardening is considered one of the best activities to heal your soul.

You may even take part in yoga classes and learn to tap into positive feelings of the body.

Keep Things Away From Children

If you and your spouse had children before separation, you must do your best to minimize the impact of a divorce on your kids.

Divorce can have a huge negative impact on children and it is important for both the parents to minimize the pain the children feel. You may seek legal help in this matter as well

If the children are having difficulty dealing with the separation, it will naturally put you in discomfort.

Minimize the damage by being neutral to your kids and making sure that they understand why separation is the best option for all parties. Make sure whatever conflicts you have your spouse should stay between the two of you.
