I like sharing new (and free) helpful tools I find around the Web. This week’s one is something I just heard about by one of my favorite people online, Noah Kagan.
Along with all the other things he has going on, he now offers a tool to grow an email list through viral giveaways, called KingSumo.
What are viral giveaways?
Noah and his team used viral giveaways for their email list when growing AppSumo. It turned into their #1 tool that also led to getting more customers.
They rebuilt KingSumo and its current version is 2.0. It’s absolutely free and you can sign up now and create a giveaway for your audience. However, make sure you understand how powerful this is and why it matters.
For a start, there’s the need to pay more attention to your email list. To this day, many bloggers and site owners who want to increase sales and traffic, don’t realize it’s all in the email list.
Once they do, though, it comes time to think of unique (not spammy, boring or unproven) ways to make people subscribe. It’s obvious that you need to give them something in exchange for their email. But everyone else is doing that too. That’s why you should run a giveaway.
It works because it creates a sense of urgency (it’s a time-limited offer). There’s an actual prize. And it has a viral effect – such a good initiative makes people subscribe and share more in order to be part of this.
Contests and giveaways are also low-cost but tend to reach a bigger audience than the standard methods. Luckily, now there’s a free tool we can use to see if we can double our email list thanks to this strategy.
How does KingSumo work?
It takes a few seconds to sign up. I did it immediately, although I won’ be creating a giveaway right away as I have something else in mind (which is connected to the creation of what will become the prize of the contest).
When you hit the ‘New Giveaway’ button in your KingSumo dashboard once logged in, you’ll see a form you need to fill with the necessary details. It looks like this:
You’ll need to make some decisions in advance, though.
Such as what you’re giving away, when the contest will take part, and what actions a contestant can take to get even more entries.
To get pumped up and for an actual step-by-step process for crushing it with your viral giveaway, there’s a cool guest post on Noah’s site OkDork which serves as a case study: How I Used Viral Giveaways and KingSumo to Triple My Email List
