When you’re a kid, if someone asks you what you want to be when you grow up it’s often so easy to come up with an answer for them. Whether you want to be a doctor, a firefighter, or an astronaut, kids always have a strong idea of who they are and what they want.
So what happens? Despite that kind of attitude when we’re young, so many of us just end up settling into jobs that aren’t fulfilling in any way and that we don’t feel any particular connection to.
If you feel as though you’re not getting much out of your career, it might be time to switch paths.
Here are a few signs that it’s time for a career change.
1. You’re bored.
There are few things more frustrating than working a job where you find yourself staring at the clock every thirty seconds, just willing the time to go by a little bit faster.
There are a bunch of different reasons why you might find yourself getting bored with your job. Perhaps it’s below your abilities to the point where you don’t really need to think about it. Or perhaps you simply have nothing to do.
Either way, feeling constantly bored is a pretty solid reason to want to walk away from your job and try something new.
2. You feel like you could be doing something more worthwhile.
One of the other things that leaves a lot of people feeling as though they’re wasting their lives is that they’re not doing any real good for the world around them.
If you’re sitting at a desk doing nothing of any real value then, of course, you’re going to find yourself getting sick and tired of it before too long.
If you really want to find a career that can help people, then you could become a health professional or perhaps join a non-profit organization. No matter what you choose, there are plenty of options out there available for you.
3. You’ve gone as far as you can go.
Career progression is something that you should be thinking about at all times. After all, no one wants to spend the rest of their lives doing the exact same thing day in and day out.
If you feel as though you’ve reached the limit of where you can go in your current job then why not try and find something else.
Whether it involves you learning a new skill or simply developing ones that you already have, there’s nothing wonderful about being able to grow and develop as a person as a part of your career.
A job that doesn’t expect you to grow and develop is a job that isn’t really worth your while.
You may also decide that you want to increase your skill set outside of work in order to find a new career. That’s where something like an online gis degree can be incredibly useful. Being able to study online allows you to increase your skills without sacrificing your ability to earn a living.
Changing careers can be incredibly scary. However, fortune really does favor the bold.
Doing something scary for a moment is always better than spending all of your time wasting away in a dead-end job that you hate, trying to give yourself a reason to care about what you’re doing.
