8 Must-Haves for a Killer Email Marketing Strategy

Why Changing My Email Marketing Tool Was The Best Decision for My Blog

I made a big move in my blogging business in the last weeks – switching email marketing providers.

And while it’s a bit easier than when I switched course hosting platforms a year ago – from Teachable to Podia – (which, by the way, saved me over $1,000 in blogging expenses), there’s still a lot of work to do if you run your business yourself and don’t outsource anything.

I always work with trusted and popular tools so the support team is always there for me, there are plenty of tutorials online, but also the tool itself is pretty user-friendly.

You still need to be quite organized when the transition happens, though, so you do things correctly, set it up once, and then begin using the new tool with ease.

So, in the last weeks, I’ve been switching from Kit (which I’ve used for 6 years for email marketing) to Flodesk.

Why I Switched

Mostly because Kit announced they are raising their rates. My plan was going to go from $490/year to $590/year (and that’s for up to 3,000 subscribers). Once I cross the 3K limit, the price is much more.

I don’t blame Kit for this. They have a great product, offer many features, and this is the first time they are raising their rates in 10 years.

I’ve also been thinking of simplifying my email marketing for a long time now, and know that Kit wasn’t really a tool I needed in my business.

The only thing stopping me from switching so far was the fact that I had many opt-in forms, sequences, automations, and tags inside, that it would be quite the hassle to move everything (and keep it as it is) to another tool.

But the time for this has come. It’s important for me to limit business expenses as much as possible while using only trusted tools. So that was my main reason for switching now (right before my Kit plan renews).

Next, you might be wondering…

Why I Chose Flodesk

There are many good options for an email marketing tool out there, I’ve researched some, but ultimately, chose Flodesk.

It’s simple and beautiful and I know successful entrepreneurs I like who use it and recommend it.

I also got 50% off for the first year (you can get that too via this link), and learned that not only do they offer an unlimited plan (meaning, you pay one price and have unlimited emails to send and can grow your list as much as you want), but it also goes away soon (before the end of this month!) and they will start charging based on how many subscribers you have (which is how all other tools charge too).

So I knew this was a golden opportunity.

I contacted support to ask a few questions, prepared a detailed to-do list with all the things I want to do before, during and after switching providers, and went ahead and purchased a Flodesk plan that I get to keep forever.

I feel really good about it!

As a user, Flodesk has surprised me with its ease of use and beautiful designs.

I immediately became a partner and now recommend it too, and am writing different tutorials as I learn how to use it. The first one just went live on my other blog.

Simpler Email Marketing

I also used this chance to simplify my email marketing.

I stopped offering some freebies and deleted some old automated sequences. Plus, while creating opt-ins and workflows (that’s how sequences are called in Flodesk), I had the chance to refresh them and rethink my whole strategy.

I also replaced ALL old opt-in forms on my blog with the ones from Flodesk. That’s over 1,000 shortcodes, so luckily I found a good WordPress plugin to do the job for me.

It feels good to do all this. So I want to invite you to do the same.

If you have an email list and have been using a tool you don’t enjoy so much for years now, maybe you can switch to a better one.

If not, you can take steps to simplify things.

Maybe some freebies you have are outdated and not related to the main thing you teach/offer online.

Maybe you haven’t updated your sequences for a while now, or don’t use any automation.

Maybe your newsletters need a better design and to be more consistent.

And maybe you need to create templates that you can use every time you send an email/create a freebie/write a sequence/tag subscribers to save time.

Whichever it is, take some time to get it done before the end of the year.

Let me know if you have any questions about email marketing.

And also, if you want to lock in the unlimited plan Flodesk offers, make sure you do so before November 28th, 2025. That’s when it goes away and instead, they will introuduce a tiered pricing model that scales with the number of subscribers.

If you sign up before that, you get to keep the unlimited plan, for the same price, forever.

I love a good deal!

If you’re wondering what that price is, it’s around $418/year (with the discount of 1 month free applied).

But you can also use this link to get 50% off for the first year, so you’ll only pay $209.

That’s what I paid and I couldn’t be happier.

But the best part about this is that it’s a long-term investment.

The big goal is always to grow your list beyond 10K subscribers, for example. And that means keeping the same price.

With other tools, the yearly expense for that would be quite big.

So that’s why I stopped using my old email marketing tool and picked Flodesk instead. I just prepared my very first newsletter (which I’ll send tomorrow) and the whole experience was so great.

Flodesk has all the features I need, and I’m excited to grow my list thanks to it.
