Most of us would like to say that we have a job which is useful to the planet in some way, useful to other people, or just useful in a way that means that it is worthwhile. We seek rewarding careers.
The feeling of getting up for work knowing that what you are doing is useful is not easily beaten, and as such it is something that a lot of people are going to be aiming for throughout their lives. That rewarding sense does not come easily, however, and many people are still struggling to find a career that does this for them.
In this article, we are going to discuss how you might be able to find valuable careers, and how you can then ensure that you land the job so that you can actually do it.
What It Takes to Find Rewarding Careers
Before you can do that, you need to know what your own personal values are as strongly as you possibly can.
Knowing your own values will mean that you are significantly more likely to be able to find work that then falls in line with those values. Whereas, if you are not sure about what you value, then that is not something that is going to come all that easily, especially rewarding careers and living a fulfilling life.
Of course, many people have shared values in our culture, and it might be that you feel there is nothing particularly different about yours. But it is worth digging down under the surface to see whether that is really the case/
Once you start asking yourself what you really think is important and worth working for, you will find that you are probably drawn towards particular rewarding careers as a result of this realization.
It might be that you value helping people above all else, or that you think the most important thing in the world is to produce great art.
Whatever it is, it is likely that it will be a strong indication of what you are going to want to do as a career, so it is a good idea to spend some time on this as best as you can.
With that groundwork done, you will be in a much better position altogether.
Where To Look for Valuable Careers
Once you are sure that you know what kind of values you want to make use of and promote in your career, you should start to get a sense of what kind of job you might want to go for.
You will then need to work out where to start looking in order to ensure that you are going to find an appropriate job. That in itself is a challenge, and one which you will need to work on from the start if you are to end up with a job that you are going to love.
Let’s take the example, firstly of someone wanting to help people, as they believe that the most rewarding careers involve being a help to someone.
If you want to pursue that kind of rewarding career, you will most likely want to look at the world of healthcare, medicine and therapy.
That could mean becoming a doctor or nurse or other healthcare assistant or professional, or it might mean getting into mental health care as a therapist or counsellor. It could even be social work, or something along those lines.
Already, you have a huge number of possible avenues to try, and you should be able to discover one or two that you like the look of in no time.
Getting Experience in a Rewarding Career Field
Once you know the world that you would like to work in, you need to then think about what kind of experience you might need to have in order to put yourself forward as a strong prospective candidate.
Again, to take the example of working in something like healthcare, you will probably want to think about going out and finding some training which you can show on your CV.
Add to that a part-time work experience placement which is somehow related to the ultimate job that you want.
That training might be actually easy enough to come by, but you want to make sure that you are going to get the best education you can. That’s why it is generally best to go for something like the University of Arizona, as you know that you can probably trust the education that you get there a lot more than many other kinds of institutions.
Once you have gained the necessary experience, you can start to think about landing that dream job.
Putting Your Application Together
If you feel you have found one of the most rewarding careers that you would like to go for – or a few – and you are sure that you now have all of the experience necessary, then it is time to start putting the application together.
This is a process that many people struggle with, but it can be straightforward enough as long as you make sure that you are aware of what is being asked of you.
As you can see, the important thing here is to do your research. With the right research under your belt, you will be able to put your application together in such a way as to improve your chances of getting a satisfying job greatly.
You should include on your resume all relevant experience, as well as your training that you carried out, and also a short indication of why you want to do this particular job.
That is where all of your initial thinking comes into play, as you should by now be able to really explain what it is that you will find valuable about the job.
Should you get through to interview, your passion should shine through, as it is what you really want to do with your life.
If you follow these steps, you should find that you are much more likely to end up finding rewarding careers – and that is one way to make sure that your life is truly a joy.
