If you want to learn how to make 5000 a month online, this is the guide for you. I’ll now share exactly what I did in the past months to reach that number and how you can do the same.
As you might have noticed, my income has changed drastically since the beginning of this year. It doubled and then tripled although I didn’t work longer hours on my blog and online business. In this article, I’m going to outline the things I did differently to make $5,000 a month working from home.
If you’ve been blogging for a while, are passionate about following other bloggers’ journeys (and reading their awesome income reports) and want to make money online too, then you know that 5000 a month is a pretty important milestone.
I like sharing my story (you can read it on my About page) as I did start from nothing, had absolutely no knowledge of how the digital world works, and wasn’t even sure if I could make any money online. That means anyone else out there can do the same too.
Over the years, I got to making $1000/month online through freelancing.
I’m a freelance writer although I’m doing that less often now and focus on blogging and creating passive income streams.
Where It All Began
The ways in which I make money have changed over the years, as I learned more about blogging and earning an income online, followed many bloggers doing the same and learned from them, and experimented using my skills.
I managed to grow Let’s Reach Success and start earning a few thousand dollars per month.
That allowed me to become location independent, turn it into a real online business, and move to another country where I now live the life I designed for myself.
However, back in the days I too was uncertain, not sure where to start, and completely unaware of the fact that I could one day know how to make 5000 a month online.
The good thing about blogging and online business is that you don’t need to know how you’re going to make money yet. You just need to start.
Usually, that’s by starting a blog and publishing a ton of content on it first. If you haven’t started a blog yet, check out my free blogging course.
It Took 5 Years to Start Making $5K
I share my income reports here on the blog. In them, I write about the earnings and expenses I have each month related to my blog and business.
I currently earn through sponsored posts, freelance writing, ads, affiliate marketing, and selling my books.
I’m also working on paid online courses now that I expect to completely change the course of my career.
In the last month’s income report, I hit the $5K milestone. I earned a total of $5,400 from home in one month by working whenever I want to.
However, I work more strategically than ever now. Blogging is a never-ending journey and it took me 5 years to get to where I am.
I’m confident that you – even if you’re starting just now – can do it much faster. That’s why I released an EPIC online course that has anything and everything I did, learned about, tested and understood about blogging over the last 5 years.
It’s called Financial Freedom through Blogging and it’s huge, with all the information (without BS) you need to start a blog, grow it, monetize it, and use that income online to change the rest of your life forever.
Check out Financial Freedom Through Blogging here.
Okay, so let’s get to the point of today’s post.
I promised to share how to make 5000 a month from home. Obviously, there are some things I did differently to double my income, knowing it stayed low for quite a long time.
In the past 6 months, however, it got to over $4,000 to $5,400 a month. And that’s no coincidence.
While your situation will be different and your blog and business will grow in ways different from mine, I believe the principles of increasing your income in the digital world are often the same.
Please keep in mind we aren’t talking about startups here, but about a one-man blogging business that started from nothing and is related to publishing a ton of content and providing value.
How to Make 5000 a Month Online
1. Doing more of what worked.
Most of the time, people work on too many things at once and chase goals that aren’t necessary.
By constantly taking a look at the big picture and the direction you’ve taken but also at the day-to-day actions, we can see what works and what doesn’t.
Self-awareness is critical here. And to make $5000 a month working from home doing what you love, we need to stop doing the things that don’t get us there, analyze what has worked so far, and do more of it.
Sounds simple but most bloggers just blog about all kinds of stuff, monetize their platforms in ways they think can make them the most money, only to realize that’s not even a profitable niche.
A year and a half ago my income was lower than before that. I had just come back from a 5-week mini-retirement in Thailand, spent all my savings, and my new home in another country was much more expensive than where I originally come from.
Not to mention my focus was gone and I desperately needed to make more money online so I can keep this lifestyle.
But I was looking at it the wrong way.
When making money is a need, that usually gets in the way of actually providing value and earning real money from your efforts.
I even thought about getting into eCommerce and researched different fields and ways to make money online that simply weren’t for me. That cost me a ton of time and energy that could have been invested in what has worked for me before.
So I decided to do something I’d never really done before. It’s a good thing I’ve always been tracking not just my income, but also the work I did, new and old projects, the day-to-day activities, and more.
There’s always something new to work on in the digital world and that can keep you from understanding what you’re really good that. Because that’s where the money and the real value are.
I do tracking online but also the old-fashioned way – in a notebook. So I grabbed my old ones and went through them page by page.
Then something unbelievably simple and obvious hit me – I began making money thanks to freelance writing.
That has worked for me even when I wasn’t a full-time blogger.
But I left it behind because I didn’t enjoy it that much anymore and because I began making money in other ways too.
Had I not seen that, I wouldn’t have been able to make $5,000 a month now.
So I got back to where I started. I asked myself what was working for me a year ago when I was making a bit more. I reminded myself of how I earned my first $1000 online and how I turned that into a recurring income online (through freelancing).
Then, I stopped working on all the new, pointless projects and went back to basics. I accepted the fact that I need to be a freelancer before I’m a blogger, and do work for clients so I can earn enough to provide for this lifestyle.
I also kept in mind this is what can allow me to work on side projects in the meantime and make sure I begin making money regularly in better ways some time in the near future. And that’s exactly what happened.
I now make 5000 a month online and freelancing still plays a role in it, but not a big one. However, it was key that I focused on the one thing that worked for me before and started doing it again.
That meant applying for jobs on sites for freelancers like Upwork, building my reputation there so I can be a top freelancer with a great profile, and finding new clients and getting some regular ones.
While that’s no easy work, it helped me find my focus again, get my discipline back, and take action on a daily basis instead of making excuses and procrastinating.
2. I doubled my prices.
One of the most crucial things I did in the last 6 months to make $5000 a month was to increase my rates.
Yes, doubling my income was also a result of doubling my prices.
It’s a funny thing that most bloggers and freelancers underprice their services and their work. That also means they are underpricing themselves.
It’s often an issue of lack of confidence, thinking you’ll miss out on clients or sales if you charge more, and settling down for less because it’s what you feel comfortable with.
But there are no limits to how much you can earn from your blog and business. $10,000 is not impossible, and plenty of bloggers I’m a big fan of got to $100,000/month online.
That’s right. They are millionaires who started from nothing. I shared 2 such stories in this article about the highest paid bloggers.
How I doubled my prices to make 5000 a month online from my blog and business?
Here are some details:
I read about the tendency of bloggers and freelancers to underprice themselves and set some time aside to think about it.
I had an honest conversation with myself about how much my work was worth. I often forget I’ve been freelancing and blogging for 5+ years and that means more than the case of a professional with a diploma in the field who begins practicing just now.
Having your own platform gives your power. Others can’t imitate the hard work I’ve put in Let’s Reach Success as there are nearly 2,000 articles on it and I’ve done a ton of things to make it trustworthy in the eyes of Google, readers, brands and businesses.
Because I’m the owner, I’m also the one deciding the prices (that goes mostly for sponsored articles I allow on the blog).
I started saying ‘no’ to clients more often. Yes, I began leaving money on the table and that changed the game for me.
I stopped taking freelance work that I didn’t feel was the best investment of my time or even work I’d enjoy doing. After all, I won’t do my best unless I’m passionate about the topic and see the client values quality content too.
I stopped working with many regular clients who provided sponsored blog posts for the site. Either the price was simply too low, the quality wasn’t good or the communication wasn’t smooth.
I asked new potential clients for sponsorships for much higher prices.
I created a page for sponsors mentioning my new minimum rate (which was double the previous one) and they began taking my word more seriously.
Fewer clients who pay higher prices lead to doubling your income, which was the next step in learning how to make 5000 a month online.
3. I learned exactly how other bloggers make their money.
One of the most interesting things I began doing on a regular basis is studying the blogs of other people in my and other niches.
I usually find out about them from an interview on another blog I follow or simply see their name and blog mentioned pretty often on other publications. Then I go and check that person’s site.
To really see what’s behind a platform, you need to dig deeper.
It all begins by reading their About page to see who they are and what they do. In it, they usually link to their most important pages and blog posts on the site, so make sure you check that out.
I like taking a look at their homepage and at a single blog post to notice the design and different elements they included. You can easily see what they promote this way.
They often have tutorials and include affiliate links, have opt-in forms throughout the site that lead to a freebie which you can subscribe to and check out.
Most often these people have a product so that’s worth your time too. You don’t need to buy it, of course. Just see its landing page and read about it. Its topic is usually something that is guaranteed to make money in that niche.
Now’s the time to see if that blogger publishes their income reports.
I love these types of posts. It’s something they start when they are already making a certain sum of money online and which they share monthly on their site.
I also began doing that and now the end of the month is my favorite time as I get to calculate my earnings and expenses and share them with my readers.
Together with that, every blogger includes the new things they work on, new business expenses they have, courses they bought to take their business to the next level, where they find inspiration, what they plan to do next, and so on.
It’s not just fun, but it shows you more ways to make 5000 a month.
By simply reading such income reports, you can get creative and think of innovative ways to share your knowledge on your blog, what new product to build and launch, or else.
While I’ve been reading stuff related to online business and blogging for years, it wasn’t until half a year ago that I narrowed down my search.
Because I knew what my talents, skills and aspirations were and how I was already earning from my blog, I now decided to follow people doing the same but who have accomplished much more.
So I followed Michelle from Making Sense of Cents, who’s an inspiration in the Finance niche but also for anyone who wants to turn their blog into a business.
That’s just one example of many. She’s earning more than $100K/month, sure, but so many others in your niche (whatever that is) make $10K per month from home or $2-3K.
Find them and learn from them.
You can do that by googling the niche and add ‘income reports’. You’ll be amazed at the valuable information you can find for free.
What matters the most, however, is that reading these every week will increase your motivation and you won’t doubt your abilities to earn more online anymore.
4. You can’t earn 5K a month without helping others first.
Don’t expect to earn an income online through blogging or in another similar way if you aren’t providing as much value as you can.
I didn’t do all this for the money. I didn’t begin with the money in mind back in the days. And the moment you let go of this, you will be able to do your best work and help others.
Solve a problem people have with your content. Write about the reader, not only for search engines.
Reach out to your readers and ask them what they want to read more about. Then go ahead and cover exactly these topics.
Let me give you an example.
As I’m now working on Blog to Biz System, I share updates on it with the subscribers of Let’s Reach Success.
I recently encouraged them to email me back and share what they are struggling with or what’s been on their mind lately. That could be about online business and making money online or pretty much anything else.
One reader emailed me sharing his story.
I love emails like that as it’s often easier to quietly read someone’s site and follow their journey without ever contacting them. It takes courage to share your story too and to ask for advice.
We started exchanging emails with that reader and he liked the idea of the new course on blogging I’m working on. He asked about one topic in particular and that’s how to get from writing an article to seeing it generating an income.
It was a good question and something I’ve been doing in different ways but which I never shared actionable advice about. So I decided to open a Word doc the next day and write all I know about this.
I began by explaining the big picture of how a site makes money thanks to each and every blog post on it. And then described how one blog post is created and what connects it with all other pages on the blog.
I then shared how I earn from old and new articles on Let’s Reach Success.
That led to revealing my step-by-step process of picking a good topic, outlining an article, researching and optimizing it for a keyword with one free tool, and including certain elements throughout the content.
The document soon had 5000 words and I shared it with that reader. He can now go through it and hopefully find some value.
This knowledge is unique as it outlines a process I found to work after years of experimenting. And it will be only one tiny section out of a module in the course I’m going to release about this.
That was just an example of what providing value means.
6 months ago I had to remind myself that blogging and business, in general, are all about this. Make people happy before you ask for money in return.
Then, you can dream bigger and learn how to make $5,000 a month from your craft.
5. I paid for my first online course.
Here you can read why I finally paid for a course and which one it was.
The point is that I pushed myself by investing in something like that. It was about affiliate marketing which I’m slowly trying to turn into my new recurring income stream.
The irony is that last month’s income report, the first month when I earned over $5K in one month, includes my first bigger affiliate sale and it’s from exactly the same course.
I’m now an affiliate of it and highly recommend it.
6. Stop stressing about money and do the work!
Stressing about money will get you nowhere, and that’s exactly what I was doing till recently.
It was blocking my creative and productive energy. Instead of doing the work, I was planning the work, focusing on what doesn’t work, and not believing the income could be doubled any time soon.
I had to let go of the stress related to making money and saving some in order to get back on track.
Once I did that, I also went back to reading the right information that inspired me to take the actions necessary to reach $5,000 in monthly revenue.
7. I took my blogging business more seriously.
In the digital world, you need to take yourself seriously first before you expect others to do that.
That applies mostly to my income from sponsored articles. How I see my platform, how I present it to potential clients and to what extent I believe it can help their business, are all crucial elements of how much I can earn from it.
I was underestimating the earning potential of my blog for a long time. So I had to check its metrics, see how they’ve changed over the years, focus on its strong sides such as a ton of content and professional design, in order to start asking for more in return from brands and businesses.
Let’s Reach Success is not just a blog anymore, it’s a registered company in a country with a great economy where I pay taxes. It’s also something I invest my precious time and energy in on a DAILY basis.
Not to mention that brands have been willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a single guest post with a backlink to their platform.
All that reminded me I should charge more. And anyone who didn’t have the budget, simply wasn’t the right fit for the site.
8. I did a blog audit.
Auditing is important if you want to make $5,000 a month from your blog. Especially when you’ve been doing this for years and your direction has changed plenty of time.
In the last few months, I’ve begun updating old content. You can see here my reasons for updating old blog posts and how exactly I did that.
I also re-organized the categories and went back to all the articles and deleted some that weren’t relevant anymore.
Broken links often appear when pages are removed, so I had to deal with that too.
I use the free plugin Broken Link Checker for that.
9. Sharing my story made me more confident.
You need confidence to make your first dollar online. You need to believe in yourself even more to get to $100 and $1000.
But to know how to make 5000 a month online and from home, you need to change your approach completely.
For me, that meant sharing my story (updating my About page and openly sharing things throughout the blog and in articles). This then led to connecting with more people and knowing where I stand.
One of the things I’ll often remind you of is that I always used to say the first $1000 you earn online are the hardest. They are also the most important sum of money as it teaches you that it’s all possible.
Doubling that amount is simply a matter of doing more of what works.
I became confident in blogging when I began sharing my goals, writing about others who earn tens of thousands of dollars online, most of which comes passively.
I began saying that one day I too can be there if I stay consistent and try new things and reminded anyone reading this that they too can make as much money as they want through blogging and online business.
The more confident I felt with the idea of tripling my earnings and the fact that anything’s possible online, the more action I took on a daily basis to get there. Now I make $5,000 a month, but it can one day turn into $10K.
You can do the same. The possibilities are endless.
Bigger dreams require a bigger income.
10. I took numbers seriously.
Last but not least, another thing I did differently than my previous years of being self-employed is that I got serious about numbers.
What I mean by that is I got an accountant for my online business, started saving money, set financial goals and followed them, and kept my expenses under control while increasing my income online.
In addition, I understood the importance of good money management and how a stable financial future is related to personal growth and lifestyle design. I started reading and writing about finance.
That means not just making money online and having a side hustle but also learning ways to manage that money and how to save in order to achieve bigger goals.
That led to doubling my income as sponsors in the finance industry began approaching me. Also, I got attention on Pinterest with my Money content.
By exploring and writing about ways to make money online and thus build wealth, I also gained new readers. I now cover investing, real estate and other sub-categories of the huge financial niche.
The next step was upgrading my income reports.
I updated the layout, started sharing super valuable and practical information, improved the design and titles, etc.
I enjoy writing them so much that it motivated me to calculate my earnings at the end of the month in a more effective way.
While most bloggers start an online business without knowing much about bookkeeping or managing money, they do learn a thing or two down the road.
Taking this more seriously helped me understand numbers and work better with them. Which naturally led to earning more on a weekly basis and getting to 5K a month.

Please keep the following in mind if you too want to make money online and be able to make 5000 a month from home.
To Earn 5K a Month as a Blogger, You Also Need This
Find your niche so you can share your unique experience and use your skills.
Take your time to choose the right field when starting a blog. Some are profitable, others aren’t.
Be sure to care about the niche you write about, to have some knowledge about the subject, and to want to help people with the content you create.
Don’t enter a niche only because you see others are making money online with it. That doesn’t mean you can be good at the same thing.
Learn from others, don’t copy them.
I said a lot about reading other bloggers’ stories and learning from them. But keep in mind this doesn’t mean copying their content or even overall strategy.
Do things your way, provide value before anything else, and you too will be able to be a full-time blogger some time from now.
Do most of your work for free first.
If you don’t want to do this as a hobby and on the side first but are only focused on earning your first dollars, you probably won’t get to earning $5K a month.
I was writing and publishing content on Let’s Reach Success long before I even began earning anything from freelancing. I was never sure if these efforts will pay off, but it felt like the right thing and I kept going.
Do work for free to gain trust, to build a name for yourself in your industry, to allow Google to love your site and rank it high.
Then, monetize strategically and you can directly start earning $1000 or more from your blog and business.
Create and grow your own blog.
Again, you can’t do that without a blog. So many people focus on the reasons why they aren’t ready to start it today. And that takes them further away from their goal of making money online.
Nothing is stopping you from setting up a site right now and creating your blogging strategy this week.
Check out my guide on how to start a profitable blog in order to understand the technical part. You can do it yourself in less than an hour by simply following the steps on that page.
Understand the different ways to make money online.

During the time of growing your blog, you’re also building the qualities necessary to manage the money you’re one day going to earn online. Good luck!
